Happy Oligo® is Isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMO), of 97.5% purity, which is a prebiotic and a type of indigestible carbohydrate enzymatically converted from starch. Happy Oligo® is 100% made from organic U.S. corn and plant plumule. It stimulates the growth of your native microflora (particularly the Bifidus species) – the friendly bacteria that originate and live naturally in your digestive tract.
Bacteria – Friend or Foe?
We need both Good and Bad bacteria
Bacteria are very sophisticated and they can be helpful to human health. The human body needs good bacteria to
– digest food (in the digestive tract)
– absorb nutrients
– break down toxins
– prevent allergies
– build immunization against diseases
The human body also needs bad bacteria. Your immune system is constantly gathering data from whatever bad guys are hanging out in the body at any given time. This data is what tells your immune system how to kick off the defenses when your body is under attack. Without these bad bacteria in the body, your immune system wouldn’t know what to do.
Just like the soil supports the tree, your intestinal flora supports your tissues and organs. And just like the nutrients get filtered and modified through the soil so the tree can utilize them, so do the nutrients in your body get filtered and modified through your intestinal flora, and in this way, you can utilize them. Therefore, instead of going all out to destroy bacteria, the smarter choice is to learn how to live harmoniously with these bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract.
Babies are born with at least 90% of good bacteria (particularly Bifidobacteria) in their digestive tract. This ratio drops to 25% after a baby is weaned and down to 10% reaching adulthood, and less than 5% after 65 years old. Poor nutrition, illness, medications, chemotherapy, antibiotics, genetics, environment pollutants, and stress are some of the factors that disrupt the natural ecology of the digestive tract causing bacterial imbalance (also known as microflora imbalance).
When the maid can’t clean up!
Microflora imbalance can cause many problems including poor bowel movements, indigestion, poor absorption of nutrients, weak immune resistance, and toxins. Your body is designed to cope with a certain level of toxicity. This is actually the most important role of your liver — to help transform toxins into stuff that can be eliminated out of your body through the bowels, the bladder or the skin. But as the good bacteria lose battles against the bad ones, the level of toxicity increases. In addition, there are many chemical and environmental toxins that enter the body non-stop every day and the result is a clogged elimination system.
Now you have toxins in the blood stream, traveling freely all over your body. The immune system is trying to do its job, but there are so many different pathogens and toxins all over the place that it gets confused and overwhelmed; it becomes over-reactive and starts fighting everything back, including the body’s own cells, tissues and organs. This is what’s known as Autoimmunity. Some of the problems related to Autoimmunity are allergies, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Grave’s disease, and Type 1 diabetes (related to autoimmune in the pancreas).
Many things can go wrong when your gut flora is in disorder. Some of the most well-known gut problems are IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease and SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a prevalent problem in developed countries. It is a disease that relates to the inflammation of the intestinal inner lining (mucosa) or intestinal wall resulting in ulcers (open, painful wounds) and diarrhea. On other side, autism and schizophrenia are two mental disorders that have strong ties to gut flora problems. Finally, inflammation that starts in the gut often leads to inflammation elsewhere in the body like the joints or arteries.
Keeping a healthy gut flora balance is of much importance for the prevention and healing of many ailments and for general well-being. So how do you keep a balanced ecology of bacteria in your body?
- consume more fruits, vegetables, and unprocessed foods to build a stronger gut flora.
- take supplements like probiotics or prebiotics to help grow the good bacteria.
Prebiotics are “food” that good bacteria “eat” in order to multiply; one common prebiotic being oligosaccharide.
15 grams of Happy Oligo® a day
can increase
your Bifidus bacteria count by 10 to 100 times.
Prebiotics are natural fibers that ferment in the gut and create an optimal environment for probiotics (the good bacteria in your gut that help digest foods and fight off illness-causing bacteria) to live in. Without a diet high enough in fermentable fiber, the good bacteria will ultimately not have a suitable place to “live”, and will be rendered ineffective.
Oligosaccharide is a prebiotic. One of its most important characteristic: the human digestive system has a hard time breaking it down and almost 90% escapes digestion in the small intestine and reaches the colon where it performs its prebiotic function, where it becomes food for certain beneficial bacteria in the colon.
One of the significant characteristic of Isomalto Oligosaccharide is that they are fermentable by beneficial intestinal bacteria but are difficult for the human body to digest and absorb. In other words, if a product has a 70% non-digestible component and a 30% digestible component, it means only the 70% non-digestible portion can proliferate bacteria while the other 30% will be digested and converted to energy by the body.
In the market, most Isomalto Oligosaccharide health supplements are digestible because they contain a larger component of highly digestible and absorbable by-products such as monosaccharide glucose and disaccharide maltose, which reduces the overall prebiotic value.
Contrary, Happy Oligo® has a purity of 97.5% and an overall prebiotic effect of 95.5%~99.5% (97.5% ±2%), which is the highest concentration possible, and it is also safe for normal consumption by diabetics.
The intestine has a complex plexus made up of more than 60% lymphocytes embedded in the intestinal mucosa plates which directly affect the function of the nervous and immune system. There is an important inhabitant called the Bifidus bacteria, which cling onto the surface of the intestinal wall and they form a barrier to protect the immune system from invaders. They also prevent toxin from seeping through the intestinal wall membrane into the bloodstream.
Happy Oligo®, which is Isomalto Oligosaccharide of 97.5% purity, can promote the growth of these good bacteria, thus aid with building immunity, especially in the colon.
Isomalto Oligosaccharide tastes sweet but it is not sugar. It is an effective non-competitive inhibitor of α-glucosidase to delay starch digestion. As such, it has a great potential in therapeutic application of diseases such as obesity, pre-diabetes, diabetes, and gastritis.
Generally consume twice or 3 times a day and each time between 5 to 15 grams. If you are taking it for the first time, we recommend starting with 15 grams a day for a few days, then increase to 30 grams a day for a period of 3 months. You can try taking 10 grams three times a day or 15 grams twice a day.
Everybody’s Most Favored Product
Happy Oligo® is suitable for people of all ages,
including infants, children, pregnant women and elderly people.
It is also safe for diabetics and those seeking to cut down on caloric intake due to its substantially reduced caloric contents compared to sugar.
If a pregnant mother does not have good intestinal health, toxins accumulated will be circulated via the bloodstream to the fetus. Generally, children under 4 years old do not have a stable intestinal flora (of bacteria colony). Any diet changes will cause the good bacteria to suddenly decrease. In fact, many pathogens transmitted via mouth can interfere with the intestinal flora balance. Taking Isomalto oligosaccharides can help proliferate the good bacteria and have a stabilizing effect on the intestinal flora balance, optimize nutrition absorption, and also mitigate the negative factors affecting growth and development.
By the time a person reaches 65 years old, bifidobacteria is likely to reduce to only 3%, which explains why an elderly person is more vulnerable to sickness and disease. Taking 15 grams of Isomalto oligosaccharides daily for a period of 10 days, the amount of Bifidus bacteria can increase 7 folds from 3.2% to 20%.
Characteristic of Isomalto Oligosaccharide
Source of nutrients to the helpful bacteria, particularly the Bifidus species, in the intestinal tract. Once you have abundant helpful bacteria, they will clean up the pollution, remove toxins, improve nutrition absorption and give you a clean environment for your internal organs and cells to operate. | Sweetness is 1/5 of sugar. It is not digestible in the human digestive tract and therefore hardly converts to energy, making it suitable for diabetics and those seeking to cut down on caloric intake. |
Happy Oligo® is resistant to heat and acidity.
It remains stable under the acidity of pH 3 and temperature of up to 120°C. Therefore it can be used for flavoring both hot and cold food and beverages.
Keep Your Dog Healthy
Happy Oligo® can be used on animals.
Main purpose: promote health keeping and disease prevention. Oligosaccharides efficiently promote proliferation of probiotics, which can improve disease resistance, reduce diarrhea and dysentery incidence among animals. They reduce odor significantly thus improve the breeding environment.
Classified as Safe and Promoted Nationwide
Oligosaccharide is classified as a Generally Recognised as Safe (GRAS) food item by the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Chinese government promoted oligosaccharide nationwide
in Jan 2007 for treating intestinal imbalance and malnutrition as a
National Public Health Initiative.

Happy Oligo® 200g bottle packaging has been discontinued. As of 1 February 2016, Happy Oligo® has been replaced by 300g bottle packaging. We have also added a plastic spoon in the bottle.
We have used a bottle that is twice the 300g capacity, so that the 300g powder only occupies half the bottle. This is to keep the powder loose and fluffy during transportation, and also to prevent fingers from digging into the powder to find the spoon so as to keep the powder clean and free from any contact with hands. Oligosaccharide melts and solidifies easily in contact with warmth and moisture. Therefore, extra care is taken to ensure the quality of the content in the bottle.
Capacity |
![]() Spoon included inside bottle. One (1) flat scoop is approx. 3 grams. 100 scoops per bottle. Please take note that 300g occupies only half the bottle. Content and empty space is 1:1 to keep room for powder to remain loose during transportation. |
Daily serving |
Take 15g (5 scoops) once per day to maintain a healthy balance of intestinal flora. 2~3 scoops x 2 times a day, or 2~3 scoops x 3 times a day recommended.
15 to 30g per day is recommended for more intensive usage if you have a weak immune system, allergies, stomach disorder or poor bowel movement. For 30g per day, you can try 2 x 15g or 3 x 10g per day. If you are a first time user, we suggest you start from small amount and slowly increase. You can try 1 x 15g in the first week, then 2 x 15g or 3 x 10g in the second week onwards. Or you can try 3 x 1 scoop in the first week, then 3 x 2 scoops in the second week, and 3 x 3 scoops in the third week onwards. |
